School year 2006-2007

19. October 2006.  Text and pictures Olav Ausel, Haydom.

Mama Kari opened the Hay-school

35 guests were at the opening of the new school house in Haydom. The opening of the school happened  with a ceremonious ribbon cutting, unveiling of the school name sign and nice get-together with coffee, cake, soda and entertainment.

A party like this is not done by it self. All the seven kids at the school have been working for several weeks with all the preparations. They have prepared the raffle by making lottery tickets and prizes. They have made sales posters to the cafe and practice on playing, singing and reading.

Parents and house girls have been baking cakes, and we have bought fruits, soda and coffee, and we have been collecting chairs and tables and so on.

The school was cleaned, Norwegian flags put up, and the pupils were dressed up nicely.

When teacher Olav, together with all the pupils, had welcomed everyone, Mama Kari opened the school officially. She was trilled for the new school, and said that this is a great day for Haydom.

The guests that attended besides parents and siblings, were guests and workers from Norway, Sweden and England. We got a greeting from the principal in Nairobi and a lot of nice words from the guests.
