Current research or planned research in Haydom area or related to Haydom:
I have been working in the Haydom area since 2001. I conducted one ethnographic project in 2001-2 focusing on birth and pregnancy outcomes. I did a second shorter project in 2005 focusing on food insecurity and measures of mental distress.
I have two projects planned for the next year or so. First, we are planning a research workshop to be held at HLH in November of 2007. We hope to bring together researchers, local women, hospital administration, and hospital staff to discuss issues surrounding birth and infant feeding. Second, I plan to start an ethnographic study focusing on birth and breastfeeding initiation.
