“Klara Sløgedal lost her only child Lena, but in return gives hope and life to hundreds of children” was one of the expressions used in appreciation and admiration for her contribution of almost 1 million Norwegian Kr (135 000 US$) towards building the new children’s ward.

The strong support to Haydom from many people, including institutions as the International Centre for Health at the University of Bergen in Norway, the Regional Hospital in Kristiansand (“Sørlandet Hospital”, former VAS), and from the people that Haydom is serving creates expectations for stronger support also from Norad in Tanzania.

Lena Ward covers 1000m2 and contains 70 beds at present.  In the spirit of Haydoms holistic philosophy of serving “the entire human being”  - not only administering drugs and carrying out surgery – Lena Ward provides opportunities and facilities for admitted children to play and have new experiences:  The reception hall is also a play ground for the children.
